21DSD – Day 1

Your first day should be a pretty memorable one, right?  Ehh… I gotta say, not too many temptations worth mentioning today.  Truth be told — I have let my diet slide just enough lately that I was completely ready for a change.  I know how great it feels to eat well, and I am ready to embrace it.

One thing that comes along with eating badly, at least in my experience, is finding that you eat less (quantity wise.)  When my diet has taken a bad turn I usually only eat once or twice a day.  I don’t know if it’s mental or just the sheer pain my stomach gets in when I make poor choices.  Needless to say over the last few weeks I conditioned myself to go without breakfast — probably because I had gorged on cookies the night before.  Aye!  THE SHAME!  Whatever.  Eating badly also seems to rip you of any and all energy which has also resulted in me having a hard time getting my rear out of bed in the morning.  A paleo woman has GOT to get up early — after all, we’ve got lots of food to prepare from the start.

This  morning my bad habits got the best of me, and I slept in.  I couldn’t get up.  It was so cold outside, and so comfy inside…and I just couldn’t help but snooze my alarm a gajilion times.  I woke up with just enough time to shower, get dressed and throw some ingredients into my slow cooker!  Gotta love slow cookers!

So, I went without breakfast.  Which was fine…I was not hungry in the slightest.  I was at work by 9 am.

Lunch came around 3 pm (first time to eat for the day)…and I had a wrap.  From Jimmy John’s.  I don’t usually do that.  99% of the time I take leftovers for lunch…but again…my routine as of late has taken me off course.  I did not have any food prepared.  Do not worry — the “unwich” was excellent, and worked just fine in a pinch.  My “unwich” was turkey, bacon, avocado, cucumber, oregano, and mustard.

Once dinner rolled around I was pretty hungry.  Luckily I had my meal waiting for me when I got home around 8pm.  I work long shifts, yuck.

Dinner was inspired by a recipe in my Everday Paleo cookbook called “Pollo Con Salsa Roja.”  For lack of a better description, it is pretty much a chicken chili of sorts.  Super excellent topped with avocado and cilantro.  It definitely did the body good, and of course there is some leftover for my lunch tomorrow so I will not be unprepared.

Stay tuned for more detoxing 🙂

I’ve already done the 10 day “Fed Up” challenge and have stayed pretty much no added sugar since then (early June) so today wasn’t bad at all. I’ve had a couple slips.

I also went grain-free about 3 weeks ago. I joined this challenge because I want to make sure I’m doing what I need to do. I especially love the way you lay out a day’s meal plan for us. I’m diabetic and this is great for my glucose levels. Thanks!!!

Good for you, Sheryl! I can’t speak for everyone, but after going grain & gluten free I was hooked. I started feeling so much better, and I have kept it up for over 3 years! There is so much support out there — hope you stick with it!

Thanks for sharing, everyone. I really appreciate knowing that others start NOT completely prepared. I am starting my detox in the morning and don’t have everything stocked that I need but enough to get by! Thanks again.

Preparation is always a great thing to commit yourself to when you’re attempting a challenge such as the 21DSD — but then again, it’s not the end of the world. Always do the best you can and don’t let one trip-up spoil the whole experience. If you find yourself not being as prepared as you’d like one day — just move on and try to be better the next. Good luck to you Tamra! 🙂

My first day is almost over, I felt a panic attack at around three; thought I might not make it through to dinner. What helped me was knowing what was happening to my body. I had been increasing my honey and maple syrup and withdrawing from them sent my body into short attacks of low blood sugar, I was able to focus on something else. I knew that this would happen and it did. I was so hungry when dinner came but knew I could eat so much with this Paleo way of eating. No sugar and wonderful foods from my food lists.
So glad to be on board once more. It was good the first time, the second time and I am looking forward to cleaning up my plan of eating. Thanks
