Grilled Round Steak with Blackberry Marinade

I’ve been naughty folks.  If I had to guess it’s due to my days back at work and poor sleep.  The biggest issue is my tiredness.  I have been having a hard time going out of my way to do things, and that’s not like me.  I am usually constantly on the go go go and don’t even have time to sit down and watch a single tv show.  Yesterday I watched several.  I came home from work and just felt like crashing.  The last few nights I have been lying in bed, trying to get to sleep, but my mind wouldn’t let me.  I’d worry about this and that, and stress about all these little details that surely don’t matter enough to keep me awake at night.  I don’t know what has changed though, because falling asleep used to come effortlessly to me.  As soon as my head would hit the pillow within a few minutes I’d be out.  As of late, I have different songs playing in my head…I’m thinking about things I need to get done…thinking about what I failed to do.  Honestly a lot of my thoughts aren’t negative in that they are worries…they’re more like thougths that I am pondering or inquisitive about.  Regardless of how tired I may be, physically, the thoughts keep coming.  What’s really bad is that once it becomes a regular thing then you start to psych yourself out!  You enter the bedroom just fearing that you’re going to have a hard time, before it even happens.  Not a good cycle, and consistently having poor sleep can lead to some really serious health issues.

As I mentioned before – I got home from work and just didn’t want to do anything.  Luckily we had planned for a night where Jason would take care of dinner for the most part.  He’s the grill master.  When we grill I usually contribute with some sides, and he takes care of the meat.  Another plus was the meat had already been marinating from the night before!  We realized; however, that we did not have any charcoal to grill with…so we had to take a trip to the store!  NBD.  I love going…even when I’m dead tired.  While we were there Jason said we should go ahead and grill some more meat just to have on hand.  Sausages!  They were the first thing that popped into my head, and I quickly decided…screw the side dish…I just want meat.  Lots and lots of meat.  Haha, you know you’ve made a full switch to a Paleo lifestyle when you can just crave meat and nothing else.  The sausages that we bought were gluten-free and didn’t have a lot of unnecessary fillers.  Sausage is hard to find without a whole lot of junk in them, but we definitely chose the best that we had access to.  Jason bought me a new magazine at the store, too!  What a sweet guy!  WE LOVE OUR MAGAZINES!

So we left with charcoal, sausages, and a new mag.  We sat by the grill and I looked at my magazine and just relaxed.  I know, I mention the word “relax” a lot…but it’s because I really have a hard time doing it.  The round steak was amazingly good.  It is another one of the cuts that I received from Wild Type Ranch.   It had a bit of an Asian thing going on with it…really interesting flavor.

We had our grilled steak with a few sausages alongside a little bit of gluten-free stone-ground mustard!  Simple as that.  A meal of meat.  I will never turn that down!

Process

  1. Combine all ingredients in a food processor.
  2. Rinse round steak, or other cut of meat, under cool water.  Pat dry.
  3. Place steak in a deep dish, pour marinade over meat and place in refrigerator.  Let sit for up to 24 hours — I let mine sit for about 20 hours total.
  4. Skim off excess marinade before grilling because it will burn.
  5. Grill over medium-high heat for about 7 minutes a side.  Cover with foil and let sit at least 10 minutes before slicing.
