A few months ago I wrote a review for Diane Sanfilippo’s The 21 Day Sugar Detox Book (or guide). In this guide you will find all the answers to your “why’s, what’s and how’s” when it comes to sugar. What foods have sugar? Why should it be limited? How does sugar effect your body? Once the back story on sugar is laid out — Diane invites you to take a look at your current lifestyle. With an effective quiz, level guidelines, and resources/support you are able to determine if ending your relationship with sugar for 21 days is right for you. The 21 Day Sugar Detox Book is a must-have to any sugar slayer’s collection, but that’s not all… as I mentioned towards the end of my last review — there is now another player in the game. The 21 Day Sugar Detox COOKBOOK!
About the Book
Just when you thought the 21DSD couldn’t get any better — it did. Diane’s latest The 21 Day Sugar Detox Cookbook is no joke when it comes to RECIPES. When you’re ready and willing to complete 21 days of sugar-free living — filtering through recipe sharing sites and skimming through Pinterest boards is fine, but having a book chock-full of 21DSD friendly recipes is the way to go!
As with all of her books, this one comes with some hefty amounts of information. Not only do you get over 100 NEW recipes — the cookbook still outlines the various levels, modifications, meal plans, yes/no foods, etc. It truly is an all-in-one type book for your 21 Day Sugar Detox experience. In addition, to the fantastic recipes the cookbook includes some exclusive guides! My favorite is Diane’s Quick-Fix Meal Math — it shows you how to make meals with anything you have on hand and KNOW that it will be suitable for your detox as well as completely balanced for a healthy lifestyle.
What About the Recipes?
So what about the recipes? Well, I suppose you have to try a few yourself to prove that they are outstanding, but I’ll give you an idea of what you can expect —
How about a Mushroom and Green Onion Frittata or Butternut Squash Pancakes?
My (and my sister-in-law’s favorite) is the Apple Pie Smoothie!
Oh my goodness I have too many favorites — I LOVE her Chicken Strips — best I’ve ever had! The Cinnamon & Fennel Braised Pork is out of this world as well. The very first recipe I made was the No-Honey Mustard Pecan-Crusted Salmon…wow. 🙂
I love her Beet & Carrot Stacked Salads, and the Fennel & Bacon Sweet Potato Salad is a real crowd pleaser.
Yes, Even Desserts
Did I mention that DESSERTS are A-Okay on the 21DSD? How do some Apple Chai Spice Scones sound? In the mood for some Banana Pecan Macaroons with a Chocolate Glaze? I know I am!
Without further ado here is a great Curried Chicken Salad with Apples recipe straight from the book. Hope you enjoy!
- 1 cup homemade mayo (a recipe is included in the cookbook, but you can use any one you are comfortable with)
- 3 tbsp. apple cider vinegar
- 3 tbsp. yellow curry powder
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (cooked, cooled, and cubed)
- 1/2 medium red onion, diced
- 3 scallions, sliced
