Whole30 Days 7 & 8

I have been slacking off in the blogging world again.  I think this suits my schedule though…updating two days at a time.  Tonight marks Day 8 of our Whole30, and I mentioned to Jason earlier that I can really tell a difference.  My energy levels are good and any cravings, whether they be mental or not, have diminished.  It is so nice what real food can do.

This next week is going to be tough.  Today was my only day off and my schedule is pretty crazy…all over the place.  This week alone I am scheduled for about 47 hours, but I am sure it will run even more than that.  Most of what I will be making will be super simple yet again.  Meat with salad for the most part.  I sat down today to come up with a good menu for the upcoming week, but I just couldn’t do it.  Simple is best, and sometimes planning too much can bring on excessive ingredients and blah blah…can’t go wrong with meat and salad.

Speaking of meat — that brings me to Day 7.  I ended the full week with another splurge on meat, and in this case…pretty much only meat.  It wasn’t at all intentional, but that’s just how it happened.  My closing shift at work ran much later than expected and unfortunately I was not that prepared.  Fail.  Anyway, here’s what went down.

Breakfast was the usual and it was a hefty one at that.  I woke up and had some black coffee along with a banana.  Then I proceeded to my workout.  I originally wanted to get on my treadmill, but it was acting up.  The belt needed to be tightened…I was already warmed up, so I just went outside.  I did a bunch of sprints and some box jumps.  Came back in around 9 am and had three fried eggs, three strips of bacon, and a side of sauerkraut.

Around 5 pm I noticed…shit I am hungry!  Like I said, fail.  I didn’t think work would last as long as it did so I hadn’t come prepared with a full on lunch/dinner.  I did; however, come with a ziplock of carrots and some almond butter.  Snacked on that between being called in and out for assistance.

Didn’t get home from work until about 9:30 at night, and that’s when I gorged on some meat yet again.  Let me just say that I had salad in the fridge…I could have made something else with it…but who wants to do that this late?  I was pretty hungry and went to town on another humungoid beef ribeye steak and a pork ribeye as well.

So basically much a crapton of protein and some fat all day long.  Pretty shitty job on my part, but whatever.

Don’t worry — Day 8 is way better!

This morning I woke up around 8 am and had some coffee.  Woke Jason’s lazy butt up and we went for a run at Veteran’s Park.  We have been waiting to have a day off together in order to go early when it’s not too hot.  There are plenty of mornings that I could go alone when it’s super early, but let’s face it…secluded parks are perfect for drug addicts to frequent that early.  You never know…my luck I’d go over there at 6am alone and there be a car of crackheads or something.  Nope, I won’t go alone.

On the way driving to Veteran’s Park I stopped by our little Farmer’s Market and picked up two beautiful Texas peaches.  I washed ’em off in the bathroom and we ate them while we drove over there.  Delicious!

I ran 2 and a half miles in under 20 minutes.  That’s fairly legit.  After our run we came back home and I made a frittata for breakfast.  Ground beef was seasoned with chili powder and cumin, and I included some shredded sweet potato and onion.  Topped it with some avocado and hot sauce.

After breakfast we sat on our butts for a while until about 1 pm.  Grocery time!  We ran our errands, and picked us up some kombuchas…but of course!  I chose the Cosmic Cranberry one.  As I am carefully pointing out in the picture — it is made with 95% raw kombucha, unsweetened cranberry juice, and 100% pure love.  It’s 100% wonderful tasting as well.

Cleaned up, did some laundry and pretty much farted around until 5 pm (not literally).  Then came dinner!  For dinner we had some wild-caught salmon on top of some salad.  Salmon was baked with some ghee, fresh dill and lemon zest.  Salad was a spring mix with cucumbers and red onion.  For a dressing, just olive oil and lemon juice.

Watched some White Collar on Netflix and decided to have a dessert tonight.  The usual – apple slices sprinkled with cinnamon and some fresh almond butter — freshly ground!  Great stuff.
